Kevin & Lorna’s wedding

Kevin and Lorna’s beautiful summer wedding was at the Mold Registry office, followed by the reception at Beaufort Park Hotel, also in Mold. The day started with downpours, but thankfully the weather brightened up mid-morni9ng, and matched everyone’s spirits.

I started the day by photographing the bridal prep. Lorna and her 4 bridesmaids. There was fun, laughter, music, snacks and mimosas - a perfect start to the big day! Their talented makeup and hair artist was Panache Beauty by Muna (see her Instagram profile here). Kevin even dropped off some more food for everyone to enjoy - off to a great start as a dutiful husband!

It was a pretty warm day, especially with so many people in one room! But the multiple fans helped to keep everyone cool, as well as the drinks.

I popped downstairs to the reception room to take photos of the details and decorations, including the wedding favours - scratch cards! The room was beautifully decorated by the bride and bridesmaids before having their makeup done. The colour scheme matched the bouquets and dresses - blue and white.

Before long, it was time to put on dresses. At this point, I asked whether Lorna would prefer me to go to the Registry Office to capture guests arriving as well as photos of Kevin waiting for her, or to take photos of her getting into her dress and the first look with her brother. She asked me to go to the Registry Office, which was only a few minutes drive away.

After getting lost in the car park, I parked up outside the beautiful building that houses Mold’s Registry Office, and started photographing the guests. I popped inside to capture Kevin anticipating his blushing bride at the end of the aisle. In no time at all, the guests were asked to stand to welcome the bridal party.

The bride’s friend sang a beautiful song as the bridesmaids, Lorna and her brother walked slowly into the red-carpeted room. The singer got a bit emotional so had a bit more of a warble in her voice than usual! Kevin looked so happy to see his beautiful bride.

The ceremony went without a hitch - aside from the rings being a bit of a battle to get on, which just added a lovely moment to the exchange of the vows.

Ceremony over, the guests mingled and congratulated the newlyweds, took photos and enjoyed the sunshine outside. The Maid of Honour helped me to gather the guests under the trees next to the building for the confetti shots. Two guests had brought confetti with them, so this was shared out among the other guests while I instructed everyone to wait for the bride and groom to get to them before throwing their confetti in a Mexican wave.

After this, everyone headed to the hotel for the drinks reception. It was a beautiful day, so the Beaufort Park Hotel hosted it outside on their lawns under the gazebo. It was lovely to see everyone relax and catch up.

Many guests wandered off to check in to the hotel, to go to the bar and so on, so there wasn’t an opportunity for group shots, but with my documentary style, this wasn’t high on the agenda.

Before long, it was time to eat. Everyone made their way to the reception room, and welcomed the bride and groom with applause. Wine and beer flowed freely, as did the conversations between family and new acquaintances. The buffet arrived, and so I took a bit of a break to also tuck in to some delicious grub.

The speeches were next. The brother of the bride, the groom’s best woman and the groom himself all delivered hilarious and touching speeches. The groom even wrote a poem!

Cake cutting was next, and what a stunning cake it was - both visually and in taste!

Filled with cake and buffet food, it was time for the first dance. My music knowledge is pretty poor, so I didn’t recognise the beautiful song but it was a fitting way to start the evening celebrations for the lovely couple. The bride invited guests to join them, before the song ended and morphed into The Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling (yes I had to Google it) which really got the party started!

At about 8.30pm (aka Golden Hour), I found Kevin and Lorna outside getting some air, and asked them for some couple shots. I asked them to hug and the rest was down to them - all natural moments that was a privilege to witness and capture.

It was a wonderful day, and one that will stay with me for a long time. It was a very relaxed day, filled with love and laughter, and it was an honour to be a part of it.
